MARIA MONTESSORI METHOD OF EDUCATION

Dr Maria Montessori, Italian doctor and educator, believed in the worthiness, value and importance of children. Her method helps the child to develop self-discipline, independence, concentration and self-esteem. Maria Montessori’s method does not compare a child to standards used in a traditional education system, but rather follow each individual child and help them achieve their personal best. The “prepared environment” creates a certain order and allows children to learn at their own pace, with freedom of choice, thus encouraging self-motivation. For a grade school child, Montessori encourages the child to proceed at his or her own pace into abstract thinking, writing, reading, science, mathematics and most importantly to absorb his or her culture and environment.
